• When considering what natural habitat to maintain, consider connectivity on a
big picture scale with other habitat areas. Just saving a "block" of habitat
surrounded by development to say you're saving nature is disingenuous. The
quality of the habitat and connecting it to other habitat is important.
• Birds and animals need contiguous habitat areas. We should keep as much as we
can.
• We need to keep development from taking away our green space. Our
environment is important.
• Keep our area as green and wild as possible.
• Protect and utilize natural resources that are available.
• Keep what we have.
• Keep the forest areas! (3)
• We need to strike back a balance between development and conservation. Why
buy land if you cannot use it. (3)
• Protect natural stuff as much as possible.
Economic Development
The City of Pequot Lakes has an approach to economic development that deals
with job creation and growing the tax base.
job creation means bringing new jobs to the community.
Growing the tax base involves increasing the overall property value in
the City so that the taxes paid can support the City and keep overall
taxes low.
Ideally a City would both grow jobs and tax base, but sometimes the approach
to creating jobs conflicts with growing the tax base, or vice versa.
In improving the city's economic development strategy, should the City of
Pequot Lakes place emphasis on job creation or on growing the tax base?
Emphasize Job Growth: (33)
Emphasize Growing the Tax Base: (15)
