1 MID-TERM ACTIONS(1-5 YEARS): <br /> 2 C Provide a welcome packet to all new property owners within the City containing information on the City's <br /> 3 zoning ordinances,permit requirements and contact information specific to their property. <br /> 4 Publicize opportunities for civic engagement that draw on the expertise of and appeals to a diversity of <br /> 5 local residents(including long-time residents and newer citizens). <br /> 6 Partner with the school district and local artists to provide more opportunities for public art. <br /> 7 - Prepare a briefing book on the Comprehensive Plan for all public office candidates. <br /> 8 Keep citizens and local groups involved as advocates and volunteers for implementing the goals of the <br /> 9 Comprehensive Plan. <br /> 10 El Provide new property owners with a welcome packet outlining Best Management Practices for specific <br /> 11 property types. <br /> 12 L Create a tour map that highlights historical,archeological,scenic,and natural places of interest in Pequot <br /> 13 Lakes.The map should include different routes for people walking,biking or driving.It should contain the <br /> 14 location of landmarks together with interesting stories that help people to understand the heritage of <br /> 15 Pequot Lakes. <br /> 16 LONG-TERM ACTIONS(5 YEARS AND BEYOND): <br /> 17 -1 Provide information for school programs to teach local history and traditions. <br /> 18 _ Restore and preserve historical buildings and sites. Consider them as future locations for a museum, <br /> 19 community center,or other community institution. <br /> 20 E Partner with the school district and volunteer groups to organize heritage festivals and community <br /> 21 storytelling events. <br /> 22 = Work with community groups to hold events celebrating the heritage of Native Americans and early <br /> 23 settlers to the area. <br /> 24 PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED ACTIONS <br /> 5 _ Monitor commercial development along roadways by adopting a zoning strategy that strengthens the <br /> X26 downtown commercial area, permits sensible development, and retains forested gateways leading into <br /> 27 Pequot Lakes. <br /> 28 C Develop zoning strategies that facilitate the removal of blighted and un-maintained properties (cars on <br /> 29 front lawn,etc)that detracts from Pequot's character. <br /> 30 = Provide for orderly business development in clustered,properly zoned development areas in the City. <br /> 31 Designate a rural, urban, and rural/urban transition zone in order to maintain the integrity of these <br /> 32 distinct areas.
