Pequot Lakes, MN 56472 August 1,2010 Dear Ms Bitlner, As you are well aware this was a foreclosed property we purchased. There were numerous mantainence issues that needed to be addressed regarding this property that look precedence and are taking care of these prior to the clues demands. When we met we were In total surprise by the cities Violations against our property as the City of Pequot Lakes is claiming as we did our due diligence prior 1p purchasing the property by calling the City of Pequot Lakes and were told by a city employee that the only item we needed to be concerned about was bringing the septic in compliance,which we did.If there were violations we should have been notified at that time and were not.Someone needs to Instruct your city employees of this and if they are no#sure,have the correct person call back with the information. This would have changed our minds on this property and it would still be sitting here empty after 3 years. The City of Pequot Lakes seems to think we should hire a landscape company to do everything they want and spend thousands of dollars, [hat would be wonderful if we had thousands of extra dollars more than we have already put Into this properly. We are not planing to hire a landscape company,we are doing the work ourselves. We have been researching thoughout this lime and have met with several landscape companies In the area to get their ideas on how to be compliant with the City of Pequot Lakes and have it meet our requirements as well,after all it is our yard. First of all the existing berm was planted with manure which Is condusive to grubs which we have.Also there are thistles in the existing berm which has run rampant,this berm also has plants that my wife Is highly allergic to. We are going to have to totally redo the existing berm as well as replant with native plantings which will take time. We have constructed another berm (instead of a swale which we were told by the landscape companies Is just as effective as a swale)and planted with native plantings that overlaps the existing berm,which we were also Instructed to do by the landscape companies,as well as planted trees. This has never been our issue,It was the City of Pequot Lakes and the previous owners issues,which we are told Is now employeed by the City of Pequot Lakes. If you have further Issues we suggest you take them up with your employee. You mentioned In your letter you did not want to jeopardize the enjoyment of our new lake home,you have done exactly that, as of this date we have not been able to enjoy any of our time in this area because of all the labor intensive Issues this properly has caused us,with the addition of the"new requirements"of the City of Pequot Lakes. Additionally,we have been disappointed with the unfriendly attitude we have encountered not only with the City of Pequot Lakes but with the City of Baxter both personally and professionally,since we have opened a branch office of Randy's business and taken people off the unemployment ranks one would think the County as well as the City would be happy with new comers such as ourselves. Our neighbors have been very happy with the improvements to our property,It would be nice If the City would feel the same way rather than pressuring us. Hopefully the City of Pequot Lakes will remove this parcel from their"Violation List'as we were not the ones who put it on this list and we are taking care of the Issues someone else has created.
