Pequot Lakes Planning and Zoning Commission
Attn: Dawn Bittner
X1,4
Dear Dawn: eJ
I am writing this letter in regards to my alleged continuing violations of exterior storage
at my property at 31023 Spruce Street.
After numerous letters and conversations regarding these violations,I have continued to
comply with the cities orders to the best of my current ability. I removed the large junk
pile and lumber, the old green pickup truck and tires.
After complying with these requests I was then notified that I was now violation due to
my sons Marquis parked in my back driveway and items that are stacked and tarped in
front of my garage. I was then notified again that the Explorer in my front driveway was
also included in these violations, none of which were included in the previous notices I
received. I do not think it is fair that each time I comply with the current violations that
new ones are then added. My son has stored his vehicle in my back driveway for the last
3 winters and due to my job as a mail carrier, I have always had an extra vehicle parked
in my front driveway as a back up. We have now been advised that all vehicles must be
in a garage. My house was built in the early 1940's and has only a small one car garage
that my current 1996 Explorer won't even fit into. When pulled inside there is not
enough room to open the doors to get out of the car. I do not think it is reasonable that
the size of ones garage should dictate the number of vehicles one owns. If it does, that
would mean that I am not able to have a car at all since it does not fit into my garage.
In addition I would like to state that I am currently dealing with personal and financial
difficulties which are much higher on my priority list than these so-called violations. In
August of 2009 my income declined drastically along with the value of my house, which
like so many others at this time, is now worth less than what I paid for it. I have lost all
of its previous equity and I will soon be facing a foreclosure and personal bankruptcy. At
the same time,I am commuting frequently between Pequot and Mpls due to the recent
decline of my mother's health. She lives atone and I have no siblings or other family to
help with taking care of her. It is becoming very frustrating and difficult for me to have
to deal with all of this at once and I am hoping the council will understand this and agree
that I have complied with their previous requests and that the current violations are
unreasonable.
I have removed the 1994 Explorer(1/18/2010). I feel my son should be able to park his
Marquis in my back driveway during the winter. The items in front of my garage are
stacked and covered with tarps and it would be very difficult to try and move them during
the winter season.
Thank you,
