Consider them as future locations for a museum, 16 community center,or other community institution. 17 ❑ Partner with the school district and volunteer groups to organize heritage festivals and community 18 storytelling events. 19 ❑ Work with community groups to hold events celebrating the heritage of Native Americans and early 20 settlers to the area. 21 PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED ACTIONS 22 ❑ Monitor commercial development along roadways by adopting a zoning strategy that strengthens the 23 downtown commercial area, permits sensible development, and retains forested gateways leading into 24 Pequot Lakes. 25 ❑ Develop zoning strategies that facilitate the removal of blighted and un-maintained properties (cars on 26 front lawn,etc)that detracts from Pequot's character. 27 ❑ Provide for orderly business development in clustered,properly zoned development areas in the City. 28 ❑ Designate a rural, urban, and rural/urban transition zone in order to maintain the integrity of these 29 distinct areas. Each zone should promote development that fits within the context of existing 30 development. 31 ❑ Conduct research and seek professional help when needed to make informed land-use decisions. 32 ❑ Make local rules,regulations,and policies readily available to the public on-line and at City Hall. 33 ❑ Review the Comprehensive Plan bi-annually to measure the progress made and conduct updates that 34 involve the public as needed. 35 51 Page
