OMMUNITY
GWIRON"Vil
INSTITUTE
Toll Free 866.900.3064 1 Fax 866.924.1928
January 27, 2011
Attn: Kaj Reiter
Leroy Signs,Inc.
6425 Welcome Avenue
Brooklyn Park,MN 55429
Re: SuperValu Digital Sign Application
City of Pequot Lakes
Dear Mr. Reiter,
Thank you for inquiring about the digital sign application that was submitted for the
SuperValu Gas Station canopy signs.
Unfortunately, we are returning the application to the applicant because such signs are
no longer allowed within the City. Section 17-7.1"Signs", Subd. 4(F)of the Pequot Lakes
Land Use Ordinance states:
All flashing, revolving and intermittently lighted signs, including all
digital displays, and all portable signs are prohibited, except as
specifically allowed in this section.
We understand that the BP Gas Station has a digital display, much like the one
SuperValu Gas Station was proposing. Please understand that their sign was approved
by the City before the above referenced ordinance language was adopted, in June 2010.
After that sign was approved, the City Council and Planning Commission started a
discussion regarding digital signs and their place in the City. It was ultimately decided
that such signs should be prohibited. The complete Ordinance language regarding
"Signs"is enclosed for your convenience.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please contact us by phone,
toll free, (866)900-3o64 or by email,marohnna communitygrowth.net.
Sincerely,
CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES
Charles Marohn,City Planner
WWW.COMMUNITYGROWTH.COM I WWW.STRONGTOWNS.ORG
