Minutes to meeting of
Pequot Lakes Community Library
Board of Directors
Tuesday, June 19, 2012
Chairman, John Longnecker, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
Board members present:
John Longnecker, Lydia Loven, Sam Hennies, Lavone Sullivan, David Anderson, and
Claire Nagel.
Absent: Jean Clark.
Also present was Jerry Akerson, liaison to City Council, and Harry Olson.
Lydia Loven, seconded by Sam Hennies, approved the minutes of the May 15 meeting.
Treasurer David Anderson gave the financial report. As of June 15, 2012, there was
$9,090.76 in the regular checking account, and $66,522.25 in certificates for a total of
$75,613.01. Because our anonymous library angel donated $10,000 recently, Treasurer
Anderson suggested we set up a Rainy Day CD for $10,000 and another endowment CD
in the amount of $5,000. Claire Nagel made a motion to that effect, which was seconded
by Sam Hennies. The Treasurer's report was approved by Lydia Loven, seconded by
Claire Nagel.
Chairman Longnecker suggested that we need a better back-up system. He suggested one
from Nordic Backup. Sam Hennies moved that we sign up for 5 GB secure online storage
from Nordic Backup at $10.25 per month.
It was made known that board member and volunteer Lavone Sullivan arranged for tree
trimmer Allen Witt to trim the trees on the south end of the building so that the public can
easily see the Pequot Lakes Library sign which was attached to the southeast corner of
the building after the tree trimming was done. Lavone and her husband Tom paid for the
tree trimming.
Discussion was had about the Jack Pine Center book sale, held on weekends in the
spring. $690 was raised during those Friday and Saturdays. Our main book sale will be
held on Friday and Saturday, July 6 and July 7 in the meeting room of the library from 8-
4 on Friday and from 8 until ?? on Saturday. Volunteers will be needed.
On the subject of ways to advertise the library better, Claire Nagel reported on her visit to
Pequot SuperValu. She signed up for a weekend brat sale to be held Friday and Saturday,
August 3-4 from 11-4 each day. We will need volunteers. SuperValu provides
everything. We only need a certain number of people to do the grilling, etc. At the end of
the weekend sale, SuperValu and the library split the profits 50/50. This is our first try at
this, so we'll see how it goes. The store will not add a half-page to each bag of groceries
that goes out the door. They no longer do this.
The next meeting will be July 17, 2012. This meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. after a
motion by Lydia Loven and a second by Sam Hennies.
