The Ordinance in the Urban
Residential zone only allows fences to a 60 inches in height. Premade panels from Menards, Fleet Farm
and Home Depot are 72 inches high. Custom fences or shortening the panels drastically increases the
cost of a fence.
A resident wishing to erect a 72"fence pointed out two existing, new fences that are 72". 1 did measure
each fence at 72"and both of those permits stated the fence"could not exceed 60 inches", making them
in violation. This same resident has submitted a list containing 12 additional addresses with fences too
high.
I think the PC may want to talk about why we decided that 60"was the magic number and whether or not
we should look at an amendment. I would also like some direction how to handle the fences that are too
high and what to permit for this resident.
Suggestions?
C_o of
Pequot
Lakes_
Zoning Administrator
City of Pequot Lakes
4638 County Road 11
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Direct Line: 218-568-6699
Available Tuesday-Friday
8:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m.
dbittnerla_peguotlakes-mn.aov
www.peguotlakes-mn.gov
4/19/2012
