Current View of North Washin ton Street: <br /> Last month,the Planning Commission(with input from the Streets Supervisor and City <br /> Engineer) determined that the concept shown below was the best starting point for the <br /> street design of the one block stretch of North Washington Avenue under consideration. <br /> The street contains two driving lanes, diagonal parking on both sides and sidewalks on <br /> both sides. This is essentially the same type of streetscape that currently exists. <br /> The street would be designed so that it can be incrementally built upon (specifically the <br /> north side) in the future. Once the land use intensifies, sidewalks can be extended and <br /> parking spaces can be constructed as needed. <br /> y, <br /> :•alkway <br /> w: dogonai <br /> parking <br /> The street section, although functional, is not overly accompanying to pedestrians. The <br /> wide driving lanes and excessive parking area creates an uninviting space for pedestrians. <br /> The lack of shade and green space and large amount of pavement will not encourage <br /> pedestrians to utilize this section of street. <br /> Curb Extensions: <br /> If the city wishes to replace the street section that currently exists, staff encourages the <br /> Planning Commission to consider the use of curb extensions or"bump-outs" at the south <br /> `.- end of the street, adjacent to CSAH 11.
