Minutes to meeting of
Pequot Lakes Community Library
Board of Directors
Tuesday, May 15, 2012
Claire Nagel, standing in for Chairman John Longnecker, called the meeting to order at
6:30 p.m.
Board members present:
Lydia Loven, Sam Hennies, Lavone Sullivan, David Anderson, and Claire Nagel.
Absent: John Longnecker, who is recovering from surgery, and Jean Clark.
Also present was Jerry Akerson, liaison to City Council.
Lydia Loven, seconded by Sam Hennies, approved the minutes of the April 17 meeting.
Treasurer David Anderson gave the financial report. As of May 14, 2012, there was
$9,171.OS in the regular checking account, and $66,522.25 in certificates for a total of
$75,693.30. Treasurer Anderson suggests we wait until the June mail fundraiser brings in
money to open a new CD. Report was approved by Sam Hennies and seconded by Lydia
Loven.
Concerning tables for the library, Lydia will ask her son, Dan, who works at Menard's to
find out prices of 4', 6' and 8' tables. We decided to shop locally instead of going to
ShopCo in the Twin Cities.

Discussion was had about trimming of the two large trees to the side of the library
building so that we can put up a Library sign on the south end of the building. Branches
of the tree would hide the sign. Lavone Sullivan will contact Allen Witt to come and
look and give a bid. A motion was made by David Anderson and seconded by Lavone
that if the bid on the work was $500 or less, Allen Witt will trim the trees.
Discussion was had about the main book sale. Cathy Malecha, who has been book sale
coordinator since the beginning of the library, will be retiring from that position. We will
soon be holding a meeting about where we should go from here. A date for the meeting
was not set as we need input from board members and others who were not at this board
meeting.
We talked about ways to publicize the fact that we have a library in Pequot Lakes. It
seems that a lot of people don't know about the library, and aside from area residents,
there are many tourists who would benefit from knowing about it. Claire Nagel will go to
Supervalu in Pequot to ask about their outdoor brat and pop sales (to raise money) during
the summer. She will also ask at Supervalu about clerks putting advertising sheets into
the grocery bags at the checkout lanes.
The next meeting will be June 19, 2012. This meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m. after a
motion by Lydia Loven and a second by Lavone Sullivan.
