(170NIMITNITY ri4es:_-
GROWTH Pequot
INSTITUTE
GATEWAY DISCUSSION
`-- The revised memo regarding CSAH 11 to the County has been approved by the City
Council and sent to the County Highway Department.
Background Information: Last month, the Planning Commission briefly reviewed
the financial implications of taking ownership of the existing right-of-way of Highway
371 that lies within Pequot Lakes. We also identified possible development opportunities
along the highway.
This month, the Planning Commission should review the profile the highway and
envision what it should look like, once turned over to the city. The following images start
at the south end of the City (County Rd 29/Highway 371 intersection) and go until the
north end of the City(County Rd 16/Highway 371).
Photo is South entrance to the City. Because of the land use in this area of the city, this
portion of roadway should continue to function as a "road" instead of a "street." Ideally,
the City would not have to take on the obligation of maintaining any"road" because the
only revenue generated from it is from the adjacent properties which do not come close
to covering the cost of maintenance.
This section of road has two driving lanes, a right-hand turn lane and a paved shoulder
on the right side. Besides the enormous amount of pavement to be maintained, the road
also has ditches on both sides that require maintenance.
R","NA
y` l
.2 !+ Photo 1 r?
Pequot Lakes Staff Report 1
June 20,2013
