July 14, 2013
Dawn Bittner
Zoning Administrator
City of Pequot Lakes
4638 County Road 11
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Dear Dawn:
I was hoping you or the Planning Commission could enlighten me as to what might
be done. If the City Attorney could not come up with an answer to this issue, since June
of 2010,than a dumb Norske/Swede,who just got off the boat, surely can't. Trying to
buy ten feet from the most recent purchaser did not work out. Plus,I would have to spend
a lot more money to resolve it; around$1,500 to the surveyors and$300 plus to the city,
etc.
We have been living at this location for forty years and it has never been a problem
until now. Until recently, our neighbors bordering that property line have always been
good. We have had no problems, complaints, etc. When this issue came to light, I
did everything I could to remedy it. However, it appears a very negligible amount of
the northeast eave of the garage overlaps the line. This evidently causes a problem
in that water run off from the garage roof goes onto the neighbor's property. This
has never been a concern to the neighbors in the past and only helps make their grass
grow, which recent neighbors have rarely cut anyhow. Regardless,if that part of the roof
in question were to comply, the run off from that whole side of the garage roof is still
going to be a factor. So, short of removing the garage, the only thing I can think of is to
put up a rain gutter. That would be more of an infringement of the property line yet
and would be no guarantee against the water run off.
At this point I would like to hear from you as to what could be done.
Sincerely,
- '..c..ti. 0 J- -
David O.
