She explained that the developers discussed a <br /> concept for the project that consisted of affordable housing, a storage <br /> building and the possibility of a small assisted living complex mixed in with <br /> the housing. The Council discussed whether there is a need for affordable <br /> housing in the City. This information may be revealed in a housing study <br /> being completed by Crow Wing County. The Clerk reminded the Council that <br /> they previously authorized staff to work with the developer to begin the TIF <br /> application process, but the developer has since asked the Council to <br /> consider if there is a need for affordable housing in the City and whether <br /> they are truly open to a TIF housing project. <br /> Council Member Pederson stated he would not support tax increment <br /> financing for a residential housing development. It was the consensus of the <br /> Council that there is not a need for affordable housing in the City at this time <br /> and that they would not support tax increment for the proposed <br /> development. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD MOVED NOT TO SUPPORT TAX <br /> INCREMENT FINANCING FOR A RESIDENTIAL HOUSING <br /> DEVELOPMENT IN THE CITY.
