June 15, 2014 <br /> Planning Commission <br /> 4638 County Road 11 <br /> Pequot Lakes, MN 56472 <br /> Dear Planning Commission members: <br /> The Cullen Lakes Association(CLA) Board of Directors held its monthly meeting yesterday, at which time I <br /> shared with the directors the relevant sections of the minutes of your May 15, 2014 meeting. Board members <br /> asked me to clarify for you what the lake association's role is and is not regarding the redevelopment of <br /> Wilderness Resort. <br /> First and foremost, CLA does not request nor expect anonymity when reporting what appears to be a violation <br /> 1% .f the Ordinance or of the conditions of a project's approval. Any photos we submit or violations we report are <br /> either accompanied by a letter from me to Dawn Bittner and/or to the Planning Commission or presented by me <br /> at a Planning Commission meeting. The photos referenced under"New Business: Wilderness Resort—Tree <br /> Cutting" in the minutes of your May 15 meeting were not taken by or under the direction of anyone on the CLA <br /> Board of Directors. They most likely were taken and given to the City by a Middle Cullen Lake shoreland <br /> property owner, as these are the people keeping the closest eye on the redevelopment of the resort. What is <br /> done at the resort, especially between the buildings and the lake, has a direct visual effect from opposite shores <br /> and from the lake itself. The lake association does not"feel it(the resort) is nothing but harmful,"as stated by <br /> Mr. Miller in the minutes,nor are we"taking shots at the resort,"as stated by one of our own members, Mr. <br /> Bonnema, in the minutes. However, through the past nine years during which the resort has been undergoing <br /> redevelopment, there have been numerous violations of its conditions of approval, violations which have caused <br /> the lake association to be more vigilant than it usually has to be. <br /> The lake association's role in any development on the lakeshores of Upper, Middle, or Lower Cullen Lake, be it <br /> public or private, resort or residential property, is to educate itself on what is being proposed and do what it can <br /> to help ensure the development complies with Ordinance requirements and will not cause harm to the lake and <br /> its environs. <br /> Sincerely, <br /> �.,vn Beaver <br /> Cullen Lakes Association president <br />
