(d) The name, address and phone number of the person
or persons who will be in charge of the proposed
vegetation management project.
(e) Additional information that may be required for
proper review of the management plan.
(3) The management plan shall be made available by the
Zoning Administrator for review and, upon, request, to the
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
With the proposed amendment, the definitions of"Vegetation Removal, Clear Cutting"
and "Vegetation Removal, Intensive"have been reversed. "Clear cutting"typically refers
to the complete removal of vegetation while "intensive" vegetation removal typically
refers to more than 50%vegetation removal.
Applicable Regulations: The attached sections of the Code would be amended. The
underlined text is the proposed language to be added. The strilethr-eugh language is
proposed to be removed.
Staff Findings: Staff provides the following findings of fact for consideration by the
Planning Commission.
- i. The amendment allows more for more flexibility for property owners that wish to
responsibly harvest timber from their land.
2. The amendment is in conformance with the comprehensive plan as there is a
thorough review process for "vegetation removal, intensive," that will ensure the
"up north"character of the City is maintained.
Planning Commission Direction: The Planning Commission can recommend
approval of the ordinance amendment, denial the ordinance amendment, or the request
can be tabled for further review.
Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends the application be approved without any
conditions.
Pequot Lakes Staff Report 8(b)-2
July r7,2014
