Planning and Zoning Department
Year End Review
Highlights for 2013:
Grow Zone Discussion — The Planning Commission examined the return on
infrastructure investment of individual streets within the Grow Zone. On average, the
revenue generated through taxes on property adjacent to public streets returns 16%of
the long-term maintenance cost of the streets. The remaining 84% of the maintenance
cost needs to come from elsewhere in the City's Budget.
CSAH ii Gateway Discussion —The City has intensively studied the impact of the
proposed Highway 371 realignment. One major benefit identified is the City will have
the opportunity to reshape the"gateway"entrances of the City. The City provided input
to Crow Wing County Highway Department on various aspects of the segment of County
Road 11 from the realignment into town.
North Washington Street Reconstruction Discussion —The Planning
Commission forwarded their comments to the City Council.
Comprehensive Plan Adoption —The Comprehensive Plan was adopted February 5,
2013.
Wellhead Protection Plan Update — The City's Wellhead Protection Plan was
updated and approved by the Department of Health October 10, 2013.
Highway 371 Turnback Committee —Two Planning Commission Members and
Staff are members of this Committee, providing information and feedback between the
Planning Commission and Committee.
Highway 371 Turnback—The Highway 371 Turnback Committee directed the
Planning Commission to study the portion from Pillsbury Street to Grove Street. This
information has been forwarded to the Turnback Committee to be included in their
review.
City Acquisition of Property—The Council directed the Planning Commission to
determine whether or not acquisition of certain property would be beneficial to the City
and compatible with the Comprehensive Plan.
1IPage
