Road Turnbacks

Mayor Sjoblad explained that he and Council Member Karr have negotiated
with the County on the County’s proposal to turn back portions of Highway
371, County Road 112, and CSAH 11 to the City. The Council discussed the
existing offer made by the County of giving the City an extra $100,000 for an
additional block of urban reconstruction of C.R. 112 and a reduction of the
City’s interchange obligation from 9% to 6%.

Mayor Sjoblad noted that the County has narrowed the bridge which will
reduce the cost of the City’s share of the interchange even more.

MAYOR SJOBLAD MOVED TO ACCEPT THE OFFER FROM THE
COUNTY OF AN ADDITIONAL $100,000 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF
AN ADDITIONAL BLOCK ON C.R. 112 AND REDUCING THE CITY’S
COST SHARE OBLIGATION FOR THE INTERCHANGE FROM 9% TO
6%. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON SECONDED THE MOTION.

Tim Houle reminded the Council that the numbers the City is looking at are
estimates and the cost to maintain the roads are also estimates. Tim Houle
also stated that it is the Council’s decision on how to spend the money as
the County will be making no demands on how it is spent. Mike Loven stated
that the proposal should work for the City as long as future Councils use the
funds as intended.

Tim Houle stated that the main issues with taking the roads from the County
are maintenance, money and environmental. The Council discussed the
issue of the City receiving assurance from the State and County that there
are no environmental issues with the roads. Mike Loven reminded the
Council that the City is also getting an additional 3 miles directly from
MnDOT.
