Budqet Review
The Mayor noted that at the November 5th meeting the Council voted to
accept reductions to the preliminary general fund budget which resulted in
a preliminary levy of $1,501,418. This is a 2.98% increase from the 2013
budget. The levy would have to decrease by $43,418 to show a 0%
increase from the 2013 levy.
Council Member Gardner suggested making no changes to the general
fund levy because the cost of operating continues to increase and he
would like to see the City continue to improve.
Council Member Akerson questioned the possibility of either using a part
time officer or eliminating an officer all together. Discussion was held on
how the police department is filling shifts, how many hours are uncovered,
and whether the City could use the County more often? Mayor Adams
suggested that the police departments in the area work together at
assisting one another when they are short officers. Council Member
Pederson stated that reducing the force could have an effect on the police
contracts.
The Mayor and Council Members Pederson, Gardner, and Sjoblad
concurred that they did not see the need for change in the police
department.
