Faribault Office:
0-; DA 1327 Merrywood Court
Faribault,MN 55021
David Drown Associates,inc. (612)920-3320x109 I fax:(612)605-2375
garve.daviddrown.com
www daviddrown.com
September 17, 2015
Mayor and City Council
City of Pequot Lakes
4638 County Road 11
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Dear Mayor and Council Members,
As you know, Mark Casey has turned down the position of City Administrator.
Because of this situation, it is now prudent to examine the other options available
to the City. There are several options available to move forward with the process
and listed below are a list of options which are not presented in any order of
preference.
A. Offer the position to one of the other finalists.
a. The City Council interviewed two other candidates and could decide to
negotiate with one of those individuals. It is presently unknown if
either is still available.
B. Interview other candidates previously rejected.
a. The City Council initially examined a group of eight candidates and
selected four finalists to interview for the position. One of the finalists
withdrew in advance of the interview. The Council could revisit the
other four candidates and determine if interviews with any of them
would be warranted.
C. Put the hiring process on hold and repost the position again in a few months.
a. It is impossible to say what the candidate pool would look like after
waiting several months but that is certainly an option to consider.
D. Hire an Interim Administrator
a. Consider moving forward with an Interim Administrator to help
establish the position and then advertise again in 6-9 months. This
would likely be a part time position and it is not known if interim
candidates are available in the area.
E. Consider hiring an Administrator/Clerk position
a. This was one of the options reviewed by the Council earlier this year.
If this option were considered, the Council could examine internal and
external candidates for the position, however the external candidate
pool would not likely be much different than what was previously seen
with the recent advertisement.
b. An alternative would be to consider promoting Nancy Malecha to the
Administrator/Clerk position. Her finance position could then filled by
promoting the utility billing person and then filling the utility billing
position from outside the organization.
i. If this option were considered, it is suggested that a mentoring
relationship be established with a semi-retired administrator
