SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PEQUOT LAKES CITY COUNCIL <br /> TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2011 <br /> PEQUOT LAKES CITY HALL <br /> Members Present: Mayor Adams, Council Members Akerson, Sjoblad, Malecha, <br /> and Ryan <br /> Staff Present: Sandra Peine, City Clerk; Nancy Malecha, Finance <br /> Administrator/Deputy City Clerk <br /> 1. Call Meeting to Order <br /> Mayor Adams called the meeting of the Pequot Lakes City Council to <br /> order at 6:30 p.m. <br /> 1.1 Pledge of Allegiance <br /> 2. Discussion on 2012 Proposed Tax Levy <br /> The City Clerk noted that the purpose of this special meeting is to inform <br /> the Council that the tax abatement levy of$28,526 will be applied to all <br /> taxpayers in Pequot Lakes. At the last Council meeting the Council left the <br /> meeting with the understanding that the increase in the levy was .27%. <br /> This percentage will increase to 2.15% after adding the tax abatement <br /> levy. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD MOVED TO PRESENT THE 2.15% <br /> LEVY INCREASE AT THE DECEMBER PUBLIC HEARING. MAYOR <br /> ADAMS SECONDED THE MOTION. <br /> Mayor Adams presented options to reduce the levy. <br /> The Council discussed the options presented by the Mayor including <br /> cutting budgets versus using the cash balance to reduce the levy. <br /> MOTION CARRIED 3-2. COUNCILMEMBERS AKERSON AND RYAN <br /> OPPOSED. <br /> Council Member Akerson and Council Member Ryan sated that they <br /> opposed because they would not vote for anything above a zero percent <br /> increase. <br /> 3. Payment of Bills <br />
