PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 4, 2012 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 26 members
were present. The minutes of the last meeting were not read by a motion by Evenson,
second by Loven, motion passed.
Truck and equipment checks were discussed. All vehicles and equipment were good.
The financial report has our new checking balance tonight as$9125.82. During the month
we received reimbursements from the City for $342.52, 25.00 from Tim for sausage, and
1.29 for interest. Expenses were $252.65 to Tasty Pizza for breakfast and pizzas for the
house burn, 500.00 to the Minnesota Fire Service Foundation for memorial relocation,
5.51 for poster board, 43.09 for pop and water, 275.00 to David Wilson for boot
reimbursement, and 75.00 to Richard Hartwig for straw for the house burn. The
scholarship fund balance is $2504.65. All bills owed the department are paid tonight. The
Minnesota. Fire Service Foundation cashed our check so they must have reached their
goal. The fire budget balance tonight is about $136,000. Loven motioned to approve the
report, second by Selter, motion passed. We received a$100.00 donation from Claire and
Craig Nagel which will go the fire budget fund.
The safety topic tonight is about a video where a fire engine is parked just over the center
line at an incident. A motorist runs into the reaz of the truck and sues the township for
$47,000. He wins because the vehicle was not legally parked at the scene. The moral of
this is to legally park a fire apparatus and have flag men if you can.
The next training meeting will be the hearing and fit test, an EKG heart monitor, and the
Bullard thermal camera sales rep. Tests will start at 4 pm and run thru 9 pm.
The house burn went well.
Selter discussed our relief fund tonight and the annual meeting will be next month.
The Breezy ice fest radar runs are cancelled but everything else is a go.
Idea1 recently had an ice rescue with a four wheeler going through the ice with two riders.
There has been ice shelters falling through the ice all over the state and there have been a
lot of fires throughout the state.
A proposed by law change for section 3 should state that a fire fighter who has failed to
attend the annual required refresher trainings or certifications shall have 90 days from the
training date to complete these classes. The original regulation said the fire fighter who
missed these sessions would be immediately suspended until they completed these
trainings. If the member does not make up the trainings in 90 days, the member will be
suspended until they are made up. If the classes are not complete within 11 months the
