Pine Ii"ver Area Sanitay Distict
Prouddy serving: Cities of Pine River, Chickamaw Beach, Backus, Pequot Lakes,
and Wilson & Barclay Townships
2567 24`i' Avenue SW
Pine River, MN 564744001
TO: Mike Loven
Public Works Director
City of Pequot Lakes
FROM: Lee Bundy
Facilities Manager
Pine River Area Sanitary District
SUBJECT: Main Lift Station Repairs
Dear Mike,
Phone: (218) 587-2924
Fax: (218) 587-4954
Date: 2-13-2012
Enclosed with this letter are 4 pictures I took to show you or any interested council members what is
wrong with the main lift.
`, Picture 1 shows the pumps at rest.
Picture 2 shows pump 2 a few seconds after start up.
Picture 3 shows pump2 after less than 30 seconds of run time.
Picture 4 is kind of da.rk, as I was backing away from the lift cover!
As we discussed the piping in this lift station is PVC, and the torsional load exerted by these pumps
has broken the fitting that connects the pumps "base elbow" to the discharge piping. Pump 1 has
even more ware on its base elbow so it is only a matter of time until it to breaks. In my opinion this
should never have been remodeled this way, and as can be seen it did not last.
The proposal I have submitted has us repairing the lift properly, I.e. Cast iron piping, and fittings.
Thrust control rods for torsional load control. No Glue! Base elbows have to be replaced due to
premature wear from the pumps twisting at start up.
Respectfully submitted,

Lee Bundy
