City Council Minutes December 3, 2013 Page 2 of 10 3.7. AUTHORIZED PURCHASE OF A 60 MONTH CD FROM LAKES STATE BANK FOR $5,000 AS REQUESTED BY THE LIBRARY BOARD 3.8. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF SPECIAL EVENT PERMIT FOR SANTA'S BOBBIN INTO TOWN COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 4-0. 4. Open Forum The City's consulting Engineer Tim Houle presented the Council with a box of candy and a map. He thanked the Council and wished those present happy holidays. 5. Presentations 5.1. Community Action of Pequot Lakes, Inc. Kimberly Ziesemer, president of the Community Action, addressed the Council regarding the newly formed group. She reviewed the mission statement which is to work within the Community to promote the Pequot Lakes area. She explained that membership is open to anyone. Ms. Ziesemer explained some of the projects and initiatives for 2014. 5.2. Pequot Lakes Community Library Claire Nagel, Library Board Chair, informed the Council that the Library Board has been discussing the merits of joining the Kitchigami Regional Library System. After reviewing the pros and cons of the issue, the Pequot Lakes Library Board unanimously voted to recommend that the Library not become part of the Kitchigami Regional Library System at this time as it would not be in the best interest of the Library or the City. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON MOVED THAT THE PEQUOT LAKES LIBRARY REMAIN INDEPENDENT AND NOT JOIN THE KITCHIGAMI REGIONAL LIBRARY SYSTEM AT THIS TIME BUT THAT THE CITY CONTINUE ITS EXISTING RELATIONSHIP WITH THE KITCHIGAMI LIBRARY SYSTEM. COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 4-0. 5.3a. Budget and Levy Presentation 5.3b. Public Hearing on Budgets and Levies 5.3c. Adoption of 2014 City Budgets 5.3d.
