City of Pequot Lakes
Street Lights
Options
May 28, 2014
As requested by the City Council, we added decorative street lights to the North
Washington Avenue project as an alternate bid item.
The decorative street lights actually consist of multiple parts, the main three being as
follows:
Pole (including the base)
Arm
Fixture (or luminaire; i.e. the light)
The pole is a coated (painted) aluminum shaft with self-contained tracks for mounting
banners, flags, etc. This system eliminates the need for unsightly metal bands and
clamps to mount items to the poles.
The height of the pole is 20 feet (not including the arm). It is not a highway mounting
height.
This 20 feet height provides a balance between providing light for both street (vehicles)
and sidewalks (pedestrians).
This height also allows space to mount flag poles, banners, and other items while still
maintaining "headroom" for pedestrians.
On the next page is a photo of the pole, arm, and fixture the City obtained bids on
(except it will be black instead of green).
