Wastewater Utility
The Wastewater Fund is financially healthy. Wastewater utilities are not required to adopt a
conservation rate. The Wastewater Fund has not experienced the financial pressure that the Water
Fund will experience because less capital improvements will be needed to the sewer treatment plant
and collection system. Ehlers is proposing inflationary increases in wastewater fees of 1% per year for
2012 and beyond. In addition, we are proposing no future transfers of sales tax or property tax revenue
into the Wastewater Fund.
The chart below shows the proposed wastewater rates for 2012 and beyond.
Usage Rates
Metered Commercial 40.00 40.40 40.80 41.21 41.62
Putting It All Together: The Utility Bill
From a customer's perspective, they receive one bill for water and wastewater and are concerned about
the total amount. The modest 1 % increases to wastewater rates will help offset the impact of higher
proposed water rate increases. The following chart shows a sample utility bill for residential customers
with two or more occupants using the rates proposed above.
Monthly Bill 2011 2012
Existing
Proposed
r
Water Rates $27.50 $2936
$31.34
Monthly Wastewater Rates
2011
2012
2013
2014
20151,
Flat Rates
$72.14
$74.67
$77.34
$ Increase $2.26
$2.39
Residential
$2.67
Single
26.20
26.46-
26.73
26.99
27.26
Two or more
40.00
40.40
40.80
41.21
41.62
Outside city limits
52.00
52.52
53.05
53.58
54.11
Vacant
17.90
18.08
18.26
18.44
18.63
Commercial
Outside city limits
52.00
52.52
53.05
53.58
54.11
Retail, municipal
33.90
34.24
34.58
34.93
35.28
Beauty shops, post office, churches
43.85
44.29
44.73
45.18
45.63
Board and care
231.35
233.66
236.00
238.36
240.74
Vacant
17.90
18.08
18.26
18.44
18.63
Motel -per unit
16.65
16.82
16.98
17.15
17.33
Manufacturing
145.45
146.90
148.37
149.86
151.36
Office buildings
104.80
105.85
106.91
107.98
109.06
Trailer court
26.00
26.26
26.52
26.79
27.06
Usage Rates
Metered Commercial 40.00 40.40 40.80 41.21 41.62
Putting It All Together: The Utility Bill
From a customer's perspective, they receive one bill for water and wastewater and are concerned about
the total amount.
