Notes—Pequot Lakes MnDOT Bridge Meeting (CSAH 11 and Paul Bunyan Trail)
June 6, 2015
Present:
• Tony Lesch—MnDOT Bridge Designer
• Melissa Schultz—MnDOT Bridge Designer
• Dave Sjoblad—Mayor
• Jim Hallgren—MnDOT Project Manager
• Sandy Peine—City Clerk
• Dawn Bittner—Zoning Administrator
• Greg Karr—Council Member
• Tim Houle—City Engineer
The committee reviewed the bridge designs for the Paul Bunyan Bridge and the County Road 11
Interchange Bridge. These designs were discussed by the Council at the June 16th Council Meeting. The
Council gave some general direction to the Committee on the bridge styles.
The Committee reviewed the bridge designs taking the Council direction into consideration.
Paul Bunyan Bridge—Bridge No. 18002
The Committee decided that adding the Paul Bunyan railing emblem was not necessary at this time due
to the cost of the emblem. The Committee suggested adding an art emblem in the future which could be
designed by a local artist.
The Committee recommends the following for Bridge No. 18002
Concept#1 with the addition of the vertical pilasters shown in Concept#2.
CSAH 11/Interchange Bridge—Bridge No. 18009
The Committee discussed the two concepts. The Committee noted that the Council and bridge
committee was in favor of spending more on aesthetics on this bridge. The bobber emblem on Concept
#2 needs to be as large as possible. Recommendation to not use the words Pequot Lakes on the bobber
as it may be too small to read. The Committee recommends adding a City entrance sign before the
bridge and using the same bobber on the sign as on the bridge.
The Committee recommends the following for Bridge No. 18009:
Concept#1. 3 street lights necessary for a symmetrical balance to the bridge. Street lights will be the
same lights as those on Washington Avenue. Use the bobber as shown but eliminate the words "Pequot
Lakes." Eliminate the texture on the wing walls and front face of abutment and front face of the bridge.
