PEQUOT LAKES VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> JOB DESCRIPTIONS / REQUIREMENTS <br /> This is a general guideline of job descriptions and requirements for a Pequot Lakes Volunteer <br /> Firefighter and officers of this department. This list is not all inclusive. Job descriptions and <br /> requirements may change at any time due to state guidelines/regulations. <br /> Note: Experience on the Pequot Lakes Fire Department of 10 years or more as of December <br /> 2006 supersedes required schooling for officers. <br /> FIREFIGHTER <br /> Requirements <br /> • Must be minimum age of 18 &have completed high school—or it's equivalent(GED)to <br /> join fire department <br /> • Normal vision needed with or without correction. Requires both near&far acuity. <br /> • Normal hearing needed. <br /> • Heavy lifting required up to 70 pounds or more. <br /> • Must be physically fit. Must be able to walk, crawl, climb and descend ladders, balance <br /> in precarious positions while lifting or carrying objects. Must be able to work in confined <br /> spaces while wearing protective clothing including self contained breathing apparatus. <br /> • Must pass physical exam required by Pequot Lakes Fire Department <br /> • Must be able to work as a team member under stress caused by emergencies, danger, or <br /> criticism and must be able to work fast while concentrating very hard. <br /> • Must be able to read, understand, and follow written and oral instructions and use logic to <br /> solve problems <br /> • Must be willing to work under hazardous conditions: He or she is exposed to many <br /> emergency incidents such as fires, rescues,possible exposure to death situations, <br /> hazardous material releases, mutual aid emergencies, disaster operations, and any type of <br /> emergency that presents risk to the public. <br /> • Firefighter 1 certification within the 1st two years on department. <br /> • Attends monthly business meetings and training meetings (1st& 3rd Wednesday of each <br /> month) <br /> Job Description <br /> • Drives responsibly to the fire station in personally owned vehicles <br /> • Utilizes skills and knowledge to respond to fire alarms and other emergency calls, <br /> extinguishes or controls fires as a member of a team under the supervision of an officer. <br /> • Responds to accidents and assists medical personnel with extrication of injured persons <br /> as needed. <br /> • Maintains fire apparatus and equipment as part of a team under the supervision of an <br /> officer <br /> • Performs as a driver/operator of fire apparatus under supervision of an officer <br />
