She said the Park Board has been researching directional
signs for the park and would like to see approximately 10 signs around to loop around
the dam. She stated there was a tree study done about 10 years ago after the City got
possession of the park. She said it says exactly how they recommended maintenance
and selective removal of different parts of the tree for the health of the park. She said
this goal never happened and the Park Board would like to work on this. Ms. Adams said
they discussed a timber sale or having volunteers clean up trees in the park.
Ms. Adams said the dog park is heavily trafficked and not in good shape. She said the
Park Board has a plan to close off a third of the park each year and put dirt and hydro
seed to get a strong base for these sections. She stated they discussed turf, but it was
very expensive.
Ms. Adams stated the Park Board unanimously urges the City Council to approve the
DNR grant for the picnic shelter and bathrooms.
She also said they have been researching a digital sign to perhaps replace the current
sign in the park. She said the current sign is done manually now and replacement letters
are very difficult to obtain now. She said any sign they select would be approximately the
size of the sign that is already there.
Ms. Adams said the City and Park Board were notified of two brand new DNR grants as
of August 31 Ot in regard to trees and forestation. She said she went to Saint Cloud to
attend an informational meeting run by the DNR about these grants. She said there is no
match for the grants but it is like getting free money. She said one is called the ReLeaf
Community Forestry Grant and the other Is the Shade Tree Bonding Grant. She said the
City can apply for both but one of the requirements is that we have a tree study. She
said the City does not have one, just the one for Mayo Lake Preserve. Ms. Adams
