Water/Wastewater Report – March 2024

Water System Flows for February:
Average Daily Gallons Pumped: 114,000 gallons
Total Monthly Gallons Pumped: 3,198,000 gallons
Wastewater System Flows for February:
Average Daily Flow: 64,003 gallons (Design: 121,795 GPD)
Total Monthly Flow: 1,856,090 gallons
Operations Report

Pequot Lakes:
• Daily water treatment plant and wastewater collection system inspections were completed.
• Wastewater pond and lift station checks were completed periodically, and lift station
monthly preventative maintenance was performed on 3/11.
• Weekly water testing for MDH was completed.
• Water meters were read on 3/20.
• All monthly regulatory reporting was completed. The MDH Fluoride Report and the
MPCA monthly DMR were submitted on 3/1.
• Ken and I spent a lot of time in March locating the existing Gravdahl forcemain by using
the City’s sewer jetter with a sonde transmitter. We were able to successfully locate
approximately 70% of the pipe and will continue to work on that last 30%. Widseth
surveyed everything we located from 371 back to the lift station. This will enable us to
keep the line in operation while a new forcemain is installed in 2025, saving on bypass
pumping costs.
• I pulled a recirculation pump out of the tower base early on March 11th and ran it to WW
Goetsch for a quick rebuild. Paul and Mike were able to turn it around the same day and I
had it back in service by that evening.
• Aaron Meyer w/MRWA met with me in mid-March to continue work on Part 2 of the
City’s new Wellhead Protection Plan. We are currently updating the existing contaminant
inventory and considering potential new areas of concern. Aaron and I will be meeting
monthly until we have a plan ready to submit to MDH. I also met with MRWA’s energy
efficiency expert, Paul Hoeschen, and came up with a couple winter projects for 2025 that
will save us some money on electricity at the water treatment plant.
• Farm rental agreements for current and former spray irrigation sites are being updated and
should be ready for signatures soon.
• New chemical feed tanks were purchased and installed in the water treatment plant on 3/21.
Lake Shore:
• Quarterly MPCA septic tank sampling was completed and reported in early March.
• Collection system frost blankets were pulled in mid-March and put into storage. Other than
some utility locate requests coming in, it has been pretty quiet in Lake Shore over the last
month. Things will pick up quickly in April as we start some of our seasonal maintenance
activities, monitoring well sampling, etc.

Respectfully Submitted by Andy Schwartz, Water/Wastewater Operations Manager, City of
Pequot Lakes. Please feel free to call my cell at 320-232-5787 with any questions or concerns.
