Water/Wastewater Report – February 2024

Water System Flows for January:
Average Daily Gallons Pumped: 122,000 gallons
Total Monthly Gallons Pumped: 3,646,000 gallons

Wastewater System Flows for January:
Average Daily Flow: 66,619 gallons (Design: 121,795 GPD)
Total Monthly Flow: 2,065,175 gallons

Operations Report

Pequot Lakes:
• Daily water treatment plant and wastewater collection system inspections were completed.
• Wastewater pond and lift station checks were completed periodically, and lift station
monthly preventative maintenance was performed on 2/21.
• Weekly water testing for MDH was completed.
• Water meters were read on 2/22.
• All monthly regulatory reporting was completed. The MDH Fluoride Report was submitted
on 2/2 and the MPCA monthly DMR was submitted on 2/1.
• Pike’s Plumbing replaced a couple bad pressure switches in furnaces at the water treatment
plant.
• Thein Well pulled well #4 and replaced the pump. The piping and check valve were
replaced a couple years ago, so I’ll plan on having the well pulled for inspection again in
another 5-7 years. Then, also perform annual drawdown tests and pump amperage checks
for us to help forecast future maintenance needs.
• MN Pumpworks installed 3 new pumps in 3 of our lift stations (Super Valu, Industrial Park
and Trailside lift stations) on 2/21. The pumps had reached the end of their serviceable life
and were due for replacement. I also replaced a bad pump controller in the Super Valu
electrical panel on 2/22.
• I’ll be working with a couple contractors to locate the existing Gravdahl force main prior to
construction this year. Getting a good locate on this pipe will allow us to keep it in
operation during construction, saving on bypass pumping costs.
Lake Shore:
• New sewage pumps were installed at the Causeway lift station on 1/31 by Quality Flow
Systems. I calibrated the new pumps and replaced a float switch in the wet well on 2/1.
• Backup batteries were replaced in the City’s lift station Omnisite telemetry units. This is
done every 3 years.
• City staff and I have been working off and on with Widseth to prepare for upcoming sewer
system work to take place this Spring. A lift station on Harold Lane will be remodeled and
a couple nearby cleanouts will be replaced with manhole structures for future maintenance
purposes.

Respectfully Submitted by Andy Schwartz, Water/Wastewater Operations Manager, City of
Pequot Lakes.
