Call types include
but are not limited to:
• Disturbance
• EMS
• Damage to Property
• Agency assists
• Driving Complaint
• House watch
• Motorist/public assists
• Property Damage Accident
• Suspicious Activity/Person/Vehicle
• Welfare Check
• Fraud
• Intoxicated person
Notable Calls:
A notable call for this month is a fraud call at the First National Bank. An adult male walked into
the bank with intent to cash a fraudulent check from the Holiday Station in Crosslake. The
amount of the check was more than $3500. Luckily the bank staff recognized the man. The
suspect attempted to cash a check a week prior at the Nisswa branch. That same day he
cashed a check at the Baxter branch. A bank employee contacted Chief Davis as the suspect left
the bank attempting to get away. The bank staffed followed the suspect to the area north of
Brown Street, in between North Heath St and Pine St. The suspect hunkered down and hit.
Chief Davis and officer Hopps and officers from Nisswa PD, Breezy Point PD, the sheriffs office
and the State Patrol set up a perimeter and were able to apprehend the suspect. The suspect
would not give a statement, but it was later found out that there is a "ring" in the metro area
that will steal checks from the mail and then go to homeless shelters to recruit people to cash
the checks. Numerous checks have either been cashed or an attempt to cash the checks
throughout various banks in the county. Chief Davis and Officer Hopps continue to work with
the other agencies to find out who the people that steal the checks.
