Cit,; of Pequot Lakes City of Pequot Lakes Personnel Policies <br />Effective Date: 10-03-2017 <br />Effective Date of Amendment: 06-05-2023 <br />the City. Any employee who makes a false claim for sick leave will be subject to discipline <br />up to and including termination. <br />Employees must normally use sick leave prior to using paid vacation, or compensatory <br />time and prior to an unpaid leave of absence during a medical leave, except where <br />Parenting Leave under Minnesota law and the medical leave overlap. <br />Sick leave will normally not be approved after an employee gives notice that he or she will <br />be terminating employment. Exceptions must be approved by the City Council. <br />10.1.4. Other Provisions <br />Probationary employees will earn, but cannot use sick leave during their probationary <br />period. Earned sick leave has no cash value upon termination or retirement, except as <br />otherwise provided in 12.2 of these policies. The maximum accumulation for sick leave is <br />960 hours. <br />10.1.5. Earned Sick and Safe Time <br />"Earned Sick and Safe Time" is paid time off earned at one hour of Earned Sick and Safe <br />leave for every 30 hours worked by an employee, up to a maximum of 48 hours of Sick and <br />Safe Time per year. The hourly rate of Earned Sick and Safe Time is the same hourly rate an <br />employee earns from employment with the city. This specific leave applies to all <br />employees (including temporary and part-time employees) performing work for at least 80 <br />hours in a year for the city. Sick Leave is calculated based on a calendar year. <br />(a) Earned Sick and Safe Time Use <br />The leave may be used as it is accrued in % hour for the following circumstances: <br />• An employee's own: <br />o Mental or physical illness, injury or other health condition <br />o Need for medical diagnosis, care or treatment, of a mental or physical <br />illness injury or health condition <br />o Need for preventive care <br />o Closure of the employee's place of business due to weather or other <br />public emergency <br />o The employee's inability to work or telework because the employee is <br />prohibited from working by the city due to health concerns related to <br />30 <br />
