City Council Minutes
January 2, 2024
No report provided. There is a fire meeting next Monday, so next month there will
be an updated report.
7.2. Ladder Truck Purchase Joint Powers Agreement
Council Member Pederson inquires how many years of service is expected out of
the ladder truck. Fire Chief Schwankl stated around 30 years, and the truck will
be paid for within 10 years.
Fire Chief Mike Schwankl provides information on the recent ladder truck
purchase and how the joint powers agreement works. Chief Schwankl says the
plan was for alternating capital purchases so that one city wouldn't get all the
responsibility for bonding and that Breezy Point was going to take the first one
since it was the largest and they have the largest capacity. Then next year would
be the responsibility of the City of Pequot Lakes.
Council Member Ronning asks what the ladder height is. Chief Schwankl
responds saying it has 101 ft. ladder, 2250-gallon pump on it and a 250-gallon
tank. He states it is almost twice the capacity of their current engine. The
intention is when the next engine is purchased two engines will go out of service
and the ladder truck will become the third. He says it will be equipped almost
identical to an engine so it can serve both purposes. The truck will fit in both fire
stations.
When the truck is delivered on the 17th, he plans to leave it at the Pequot fire
station for a week or two, so if anyone wants to come take a look at it, they are
more than welcome to. He said they then plan to take it to the Breezy fire station
for the same purpose. It will be some time yet before the truck is used on any
calls as they need to train with the equipment and get it outfitted.
Council Member Ronning brings to attention the price that was paid for the truck
versus what the truck is worth. Discussion ensues on the replacement cost of the
truck. It would cost roughly $2 million to replace we paid $1.49 million.
COUNCIL MEMBER RONNING MOVES TO APPROVE THE JOINT POWERS
AGREEMENT. COUNCIL MEMBER CLEMENT SECONDED THE MOTION.
MOTION CARRIED 4-0.
8.Police
8.1. Police Department Report
Report provided.
8.2. Request to Combine Budget Line Items
Police Chief Davis requests to combine the budget line items of Office Supplies
and Operating Supplies, stating those two items are relatively the same thing.
