ID \IeIIness ,,, ,, Je ' �. 3/17/2015 City of Pequot Lakes Council Members Pequot Lakes City Hall 4638 County Road 11 Pequot Lakes, MN 56472 RE: Handicapped spaces at Old Fire Hall Center Dear Mayor and City Council Members, I am respectfully submitting a request for two handicapped parking spots in front of our main door at Hopkins Health and Wellness and Snap Fitness. Our clinic treats many patients Monday through Friday who are coming in for treatment in walkers,canes,assisted by another,or dropped off by the Medivan. Currently,they find themselves parking on the sidewalk down the street where parking is usually j available and walking the sidewalk to get into the door. Before the road was improved-in Government Drive,we did have a handicapped ramp not far down from our main door. When the city added to our existing sidewalk,they cemented over that ramp. I did speak to the city planning department at the time and they explained that the new plan called for only handicapped spaces on the sides of each street, not in front of the buildings. I expressed my regret for this decision, but told them we would try it. A few years now into the experiment and we can see that it is not working as there is too much walking for our elderly and disabled patients. Also,this placement of handicapped parking is not visible to the patients. Even though we have put up hand- made signs at the front door regarding the location off the handicapped parking, it is not visible so it is considered inaccessible.
