To Pequot Lakes City Council Members, On behalf of the Pequot Lakes Chamber of Commerce, I am writing to request funds from the City of Pequot Lakes to assist with the funding of the July 3 fireworks as a part of the Pequot Lakes Stars & Stripes days. The Chamber has struggled to raise enough funds to support both Stars & Stripes and Bean Hole Days, which share the same budget, over the past four years. These events serve our community as a celebration and help support our area businesses by providing visitors and residents an opportunity to experience Pequot Lakes. Two years ago, the advisory board, along with the Board of Directors, made a decision to fund the fireworks only partially; as, the fireworks are not a direct benefit to our businesses. Businesses stated that it is difficult to fund all requests received and would like the residents and community, who enjoy the fireworks, help to pay for that portion of the event. Last year, the Chamber, through sponsorship, helped to fund half of the $6500 and received donations to pay the remaining balance. This year, the Chamber looks to pay about $2500 this year towards the fireworks. We would look to partner with the City and other community groups to fund the fireworks to continue this important tradition. The Pequot Lakes Chamber's mission is to strengthen businesses that strengthen our communities. Our Chamber is an equal representation between business and tourism.
