P0L t
OFFICE OF CHIEF OF POLICE
To the Citizens of Pequot Lakes:
This annual report highlights our activities and accomplishments for the
wa
calendar year 2014. We remain steadfast with the partnerships of our
neighboring law enforcement agencies and city departments striving
together towards the reduction of crime and improving our community.
This annual report details the various activities of the department
jib including crime statistics and the initiatives that we utilize to deal with
Ur criminal activity. This report also provides an opportunity for the public
to see the various roles that the Police Department plays and what
activities we are engaging in to protect the public while continually
striving to maintain an open and professional relationship with the
people that we serve.
The Pequot Lakes Police Department staffing levels are authorized for
six sworn, one administrative assistant, ten part time, and roughly
twelve Reserve Officers.
In addition to our officers' primary responsibility of patrol operations, all patrol officers have
collateral duties that include, firearms training, defensive tactics, vehicle acquisition and
maintenance, vehicle nuisance abatement, crime prevention, community activities and school
based programs, Reserve Officer liaison, bike patrol, and animal control coordination to name a
few. In 2014, our officers responded to, or initiated, 2,753 calls for service, which is a 9.0%
increase from 2013. These figures include traffic and parking enforcement that our officers
initiated during the year and other calls for service to include, but are not limited to; reports of
criminal activity, crime investigation, motor vehicle crashes, narcotics related cases, domestic
violence, disturbances, Intoxication, assists to other agencies, medical and fire emergencies,
alarm activation responses, and other service related functions.
A top priority this year for PLPD has been working with other departments in addressing quality
of life issues in helping to maintain what we enjoy here in Pequot Lakes. We are taking a
proactive approach to minimize the potential for these issues mushrooming into something more
serious. Two examples of this would be working with the public works department to identify
repairs to sidewalks, missing or broken signage, low tree branches and potholes. Working with
planning and zoning in abating nuisance properties.
As the department's Chief, I often reflect on the honor and privilege of working with the
dedicated men and women of Pequot Lakes Police Department. We are all proud to serve this
city and the city of Jenkins and Jenkins Township. Thank you for your support and interest in
this department. We look forward to working together reducing crime, strengthening
partnerships, and building long lasting relationships.
Your Chief,
Eric Kiang
1
