3. Responsible for providing leadership to the Public Works Department. <br /> A. Maintains a high level of competence as it relates to public works procedures, <br /> techniques,and equipment. <br /> B. Makes sound decisions based on information available, experience, and knowledge. <br /> C. Promotes employee morale. <br /> D. Fosters an attitude of cooperation and respect with the department. <br /> E. Handles complaints and inquiries from citizens and promotes effective customer <br /> service at all times. <br /> F. Performs other duties and assumes responsibilities as apparent or assigned. <br /> 4. Responsible for Risk Management Activities <br /> A. Maintains a high level of safety practices through frequent inspection of <br /> equipment and working conditions. <br /> B. Provides leadership when safety meetings are held and records actions to be taken <br /> and/or policy practices agreed on. <br /> C. Works with the Safety Director to direct and/or conduct safety programs for employees <br /> so as to avoid injuries and minimize accident potential. <br /> D. Personally inspects hazardous work sites. <br /> 5. Other Duties <br /> A. Performs all duties consistent with Maintenance Worker job description. <br /> B. Responsible for Wellhead Protection Program <br /> Current Projects for the Department: <br /> The planning, design,and footprint of the MnDOT Highway 371 Project has led to many meetings with <br /> the State, County and City personnel. Many different ideas on construction and finance are being tossed <br /> around at this time.Along with the Project comes the loss of our current wastewater spray irrigation <br /> site.Along with the same construction and finance,the MPCA also is heavily involved,slowing down the <br /> projects. <br /> Also, construction in the spring of 2015 is the playground and public restrooms in the Trailside Park. <br /> Mid-range Department Plans(three years): <br /> Depending on the amount of roads turned back from the 371 project and the level of maintenance <br /> required of each of them, many things will need to change in the Public Works Department.A larger <br /> proper sand/salt building, another fully equipped and manned snowplow—sanding truck and a budget <br /> that is funded to handle the new additional miles of road.Some of the maintenance items to be covered <br /> are crack-filling, ditch mowing and line striping. <br />
