EQUOT LAKE Pequot Lakes Police Department Memo : MN DATE: November 24, 2008 TO: City Council FROM: Janet Wedan, Office Manager Enclosed is information regarding the Civil Defense Siren system the City has been upgrading to and adding, as we are able to afford. A couple years ago the Council approved moving forward on purchasing 2 new sirens in cooperation with the Cities of Jenkins and Breezy Point. At that time Breezy Point was not able to participate. We recently had a meeting with the Breezy Point Mayor JoAnne Weaver,Police Chief Steve Rudek,Public Works Director Tim Polipnick and Associate Planner Jim Perry; Pequot Councilman Oraskovich,Police Chief Braam, and myself with the representative from Federal Signal,Dan Gossman. At that meeting the City of Breezy Point agreed to work jointly with the City of Pequot Lakes and the Pequot Lakes School District to purchase a siren that will be installed by the Eagle View Elementary School. Prior to this meeting Chief Braam had obtained approval from the School District to facilitate this agreement. This siren will cover the east-northeast portion of the City of Pequot Lakes, not currently covered by our existing sirens, as well as the western portion of Breezy Point. We are requesting the City Council to reaffirm the previous decision to enter into this agreement with the City of Breezy Point and the Pequot Lakes School District to purchase and install a new Warning Siren by the Eagle View Elementary School, with the costs to be split three ways as per the estimate provided by Ready Watt Electric and Federal Signal. The approximate costs to the City of Pequot Lakes Civil Defense budget will be $5,800.00. Federal Signal is the only company for our area that provides the mechanical sirens that work with our current siren system, this is why we do not have a second bid. Thank you, 44t.t, V 4 gi
