Pequot Lakes Fire District Bylaws 09/2022 <br /> The organization shall be known as the "Pequot Lakes Fire District" (referred to as PLFD), a joint <br /> district of the city's of Pequot Lakes & Breezy Point, Minnesota. The PLFD is municipal owned and <br /> each member shall be an employee of the Pequot Lakes Fire District. <br /> Article II— Membership <br /> Section 1: <br /> Any resident who is at least the age of eighteen (18) years, lives within a fifteen (15) minute <br /> response time to the Pequot Lakes Fire Station One (1) (4638 Main Street, Pequot Lakes), and has <br /> lived at their residence at least one (1) year or has previous fire service experience, is eligible for <br /> membership subject to compliance with all of the provisions in Article II. Prospective members shall <br /> also possess a valid Minnesota driver's license and not be a member of another fire department in <br /> which the city of Pequot Lakes has mutual aid agreements with. Membership shall be available to <br /> those qualified without regard to sex, creed, color, marital status or nation of origin. <br /> Section 2 <br /> This PLFD shall consist only of members in good standing belonging to the PLFD as organized. <br /> These members shall be as many deemed necessary for the adequate protection of the city of <br /> Pequot Lakes, Breezy Point and its contracted areas. <br /> Section 3 <br /> Prospective members shall meet these requirements before being given an interview and further <br /> consideration for membership: <br /> • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. <br /> • Must live within a fifteen (15) minute drive time under normal circumstances, from their <br /> residence to Pequot Lakes Fire station 1. <br /> • Must possess a valid Minnesota driver's license with a satisfactory driving record <br /> meeting the policies set by the city of Pequot Lakes. <br /> • Must be in good physical condition, able to lift heavy objects (50-1001bs) repeatedly, able <br /> to walk, crawl, climb, work in confined spaces, wear protective equipment(including scba), <br /> and be willing to work in hazardous environments. <br /> • Must be able to pass a physical exam required by the Pequot Lakes Fire PLFD. <br /> • Have normal vision with or without corrective lenses. <br /> Section 4 <br /> New members shall be selected by an interview committee consisting of the Pequot Lakes Fire <br /> District personnel committee, including fire chief. New members will be selected based on <br /> availability, character and physical capabilities to do specified tasks and other criteria (a written and <br /> physical agility test will be given to each applicant). <br /> Section 5 <br /> All new members shall be on a probationary period of one (1) year. Probationary members shall not <br /> be allowed to vote on any PLFD business. During this year the officers shall meet with new members <br /> at the end of four(4) months and at the end of eight(8) months to discuss <br /> how the member is progressing and determine if he or she is meeting the requirements of the <br /> PLFD. All meetings will be documented on a probationary firefighter counseling form and signed <br /> by all present. <br /> At the end of the probationary year, the officers will meet and determine if the probationary <br /> member has met the requirements for active membership on the PLFD. If the officers determine <br /> all requirements have been met, the probationary member shall be granted active member status. <br /> If the member has not met the requirements he or she shall be dismissed from the PLFD. <br />
