City Council Minutes
August 7,2023
Mr. Spiczka presented the staff report.
9.2. Cemetery Funds Request
Mr. Spiczka said staff is requesting up to $1,500 for fertilizing and weed control in the
Cemetery. He said staff would like to do it three times a year in the future which would
be about$4,500 per year. Nick Roy said the City currently uses TruGreen and that we
have tried to get other companies in but they were more expensive. He stated there is
about$80,000 in the Cemetery Fund.
COMMISSIONER CLEMENT MOVED TO APPROVE THE USE OF $1,500 FROM THE
CEMETERY CASH FUND BALANCE FOR THE APPLICATION OF FERTILIZER AND
WEED CONTROL IN THE CITY CEMETERY. COUNCIL MEMBER SEILS SECONDED
THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0.
10. Administration
10.1. Administration Report
Mr. Spiczka stated the City received feedback on Officer Jake Wallin's funeral and the
City staff involved in the cooperation, preparation, and assistance of the funeral did a
great job.
He said the Greater Lakes Area Association of Realtors brought in a national team from
CRE Consulting to the area and they're studying Brainerd, Baxter and Pequot mostly on
the residential and housing side. He said they are looking at housing issues and
obstacles for the area. He said they will gather all the data and put a report together to
give us.
10.2. September 5th Council Meeting Reminder
Mayor Gardner reminded the Council that due to Labor Day the Council meeting will be
on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
10.3 Community Clean-up/Shred Event
Mr. Spiczka said this came up for a couple of different reasons. He said the City has a
large pile of violations with people and businesses with too much stuff in yard. He
suggested the City sponsor a clean up day to try to help with these issues. He also said
the City had a couple of requests to do a shred event. Mayor Gardner said we used to
do it and the County might have some dollars available that would help. He said the City
of Jenkins did it last year and they only had two people show up therefore marketing
would be very important. Council consensus was to hold an event in spring.
