MEETING OF THE PEQUOT LAKES <br /> ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION <br /> TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2022 <br /> Members Present: Chair Lottman; Commissioners Becklin, Holley, Lelwica, <br /> Lubke, and Rieck <br /> Members Absent: Commissioner Hallan <br /> Others Present: Angie Duus, City Clerk/Treasurer; Scott Pederson, City <br /> Council Liaison; Kurt Stumpf, Pequot Lakes School District <br /> Superintendent; Mark Jurchen <br /> 1. Call Meeting to Order <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chair Lottman at 8:00 a.m. <br /> 2. Consider Agenda <br /> COMMISSIONER LUBKE MOVED TO APPROVE THE AGENDA AS <br /> PRESENTED. COMMISSIONER RIECK SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION <br /> CARRIED 6-0. <br /> 3. Approve EDC Minutes <br /> COMMISSIONER RIECK MOVED TO APPROVE THE XXXXX, 2022, <br /> ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION MINUTES AS PRESENTED. <br /> COMMISSIONER HOLLEY SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION <br /> CARRIED 6-0. <br /> 4. School Update <br /> Kurt Stumpf stated the Safe Roads to School Committee continues to meet <br /> and the 2nd meeting is next Wednesday at 9:00am. He said anyone is <br /> welcome to attend and the committee is made up of ten to twelve people <br /> including some County and City officials from Pequot and Breezy Point and <br /> some parents. He stated that this month they are doing early childhood <br /> through grade twelve surveys of the students for three days on how they <br /> get to school and home. He stated they will be doing a walking tour and <br /> walk the routes of the kids and use that information to form the plan. He <br /> estimated the plan to be done in May or June. <br /> Mr. Stumpf said the facility study will have the fourth meeting on Monday. <br /> He said they had a demographer do an enrollment study and the key take <br /> away was births in MN have declined overall in the last couple years, <br /> including Crow Wing County. He said that might mean lower Kindergartner <br /> enrollment, but he said we probably have a bit of fluctuation based on what <br /> gets built and how the community expands. He said the school is projecting <br /> a little bit of growth by a hundred students or so especially in grades nine <br /> through twelve. Mr. Stumpf stated they saw a big growth in grade nine this <br /> year and he said about twenty six percent of the students are open <br /> enrolled. Discussion ensued about open enrollment always being a decent <br /> amount and that the students and staff are great and the culture is great <br /> and this could contribute to that open enrollment amount.
