Notes:
• On October 21 City Hall received a complaint that there was a large pile of
garbage in a driveway on Pine Street. Staff documented this refuse with
photographs. It appeared as though the refuse had been inside a roll-off type
dumpster and that the dumpster had been removed. It didn't appear that anyone
was living at the house. Staff verified that no one was likely living there as no
water had been used since the meter reading in September.
This debris was not only unsightly, but was beginning to smell very bad. It would
also attract rodents. The City Clerk and Zoning Administrator decided to attempt
to notify the property owners of the violation and to get an estimate to have it
removed.
The debris has been removed and the cost will be certified to their taxes.
• On October 22 City Hall received a complaint that there was another large pile of
garbage in a yard along County Road 112. Staff documented this refuse with
photographs. This garbage also appeared to have been in a roll-off type dumpster
that was removed, leaving behind the garbage. The property was vacant. Staff
was able to locate one of the property owners who contacted a local sanitation
service to remove the garbage and paid for the removal.
• It appears that the property owners had contacted a refuse hauler to supply the
dumpster. When the refuse hauler was not paid to haul the garbage away, they
simply removed their dumpster.
• The Dump is scheduled to be cleaned up on November 3! This is a joint effort
including the property owner, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Crow
Wing County Solid Waste, and the City.
Completed October 28, 2008 2
