Pequot Lakes Public School RICK LINNELL
"A Commitment To Quality Learning For Everyone" Superintendent
Independent School District No. 186 JOHN MCDONALD
30805 Olson Street Secondary Principal
Pequot Lakes MN 56472 RANDY HANSEN
Phone:218-568-4996 Middle Level Principal
r _ NM Fax:218-568-5259
DON LENZEN
e4 http://pequotlakes.kl2.mn.us Elementary Principal
2 October, 2008
To: Members of the Pequot Lakes City Council
From: Randy J. Ryan, Transportation Director, ISD 186
This letter concerns the intersection at Highway #371 and County Road#17. Northbound
vehicles turning onto westerly#17 frequently have to wait for southbound traffic to clear. At
present, there is no right hand passing lane so northbound cars and trucks must wait for turning
traffic. The speed limit at that point is 55 MPH. Over the last few years, we have had numerous
collisions there and one fatality caused by inattentive motorists. They run into the rear end of
turning vehicles, often pushing them into oncoming traffic. I am asking the city to request that
the Minnesota DOT survey the problem and either create a right hand passing lane, reduce the
speed limit, or both. There have been many close calls involving my school buses and I worry
about the students as well as my drivers. I hope a solution can be found.
Thank you,
Randy J. ''
