Mr. Burslie stated the Comprehensive Plan expresses the City's desire for an up north, <br /> small town feel. The City Council gave the directive for an old marque type sign. Mr. <br /> Burslie asked whether or not the City wants to allow digital signs or not. <br /> Council Member Sjoblad was in the audience and stated he was informally attending <br /> with the American Legion and the School representative and stated they were happy <br /> with the Ordinance Amendment as it is written. The letter from Jenna Crawford, <br /> Pequot Lakes Area Director of the Chamber supporting digital signs was included in the <br /> Minutes. <br /> Planning Commission Member Habein stated this amendment will satisfy all groups <br /> except the School; they are offsite. Mr. Burslie reminded the,Planning Commission that <br /> Mr. Johnson was told there were two hurdles for the School'.""'Pl,anning Commission <br /> Member Hallan reminded the Planning Commission that this me dment is for onsite <br /> signs, not offsite signs. <br /> Julie Despot, Community Education Director fob=the 86661, stated sh ently learned <br /> that the Chamber doesn't own the property where the current sign is located. She stated <br /> the community has the opportunity to have digital display, with the ease of being able to <br /> change the information, not to rotate;%buil ,static. This could include both School and <br /> community information. The School is not loop for their-own sign. Location of a <br /> sign where people gQ,p is better than having a sign on School property. She stated <br /> she understands the City will be taking off' existing sign. The School would like to <br /> partner with the community and support the Option for digital display. <br /> Planning Cr on Member Oraskbvisked ch a if a 4'X 8' sign would be approved for <br /> the Chamber;`Sch661 and Legion. He was informed that the amendment would include <br /> all businesses in the Downtown Mixed Use district. <br /> Mr. Burslie explained the digital signage would be counted toward the maximum overall <br /> signage allowed in the Downtown Mixed Use zone. <br /> Planning Commission Member Oraskovich stated he has hard feelings about this; it is <br /> an issue that keeps coming up He stated the City Council should give more guidelines if <br /> they want the Planning Commission to change something. <br /> Council Member Akerson stated Mr. Burslie added the guidelines to the amendment; <br /> Council Member Akerson further stated he does not know what they should be. <br /> Mr. Burslie stated a lot of guidelines were added.
