PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD <br />MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 23, 2013 MEETING <br />The January meeting of the PLAFB was called to order by Chairman Peterson. Members <br />in attendance were Hart, Benson, Dubay, Sodd, Weaver, Rudberg, Nelson, Peterson, <br />Donovan, Bartels, and Sjoblad. The minutes of the last meeting were not read due to a <br />motion by Bartels, second by Benson, motion passed. <br />The fourth quarter fire call report was discussed. There were 17 calls. By types there <br />were 9 good intent, 3 grass, 2 structure 1 mutual aid structure, 1 mutual aid search for lost <br />person, and l motor vehicle auto extrication. By location there were 8 to Breezy Point, 4 <br />to Pequot Lakes, 2 to the City of Jenkins, 1 to Loon Lake Township, 1 to Pine River, and <br />1 to Mission Township. Last year there were 18 calls during this period. <br />There were 6 fire bills sent that totaled $2300.00. <br />The training report totaled 17 hours. By types there were 4 hours fire prevention open <br />house with grease fire demonstration, 4 hours live house burns, 3 hours new 800 <br />megahertz radio operation, 2 hours fire prevention at Eagle View Elementary school, 2 <br />hours bloodbome pathogens, and 2 hours hazardous materials. <br />The fourth quarter financial report was discussed. The department spent 3 % over budget <br />in 2012 which was very good despite some costly unexpected repairs. Insurance costs <br />exceeded budget due to significant increase in the workman's comp policy. At year's end <br />there is $140,210.00 available to start 2013. Rudberg motioned to approve the report, <br />second by Sjoblad, motion passed. <br />Fire department news includes Kate Petersen on a year long leave of absence. The <br />department burned two small buildings and a house for the Methodist church. The new <br />Pequot radio tower off Akerson road is in operation. The new 800 megahertz radios are <br />working great. Fire fighter 1 and 2 classes are currently being offered. We will be <br />notified of fire calls by a text message in the near future. The department purchased a gun <br />safe to provide safe storage for records and historic documents. The safe was more <br />reasonably priced than a standard fire proof file cabinet. A new computer was purchased <br />for 4800.00. We received another $100.00 donation from Craig & Claire Nagel. Fire <br />Officer and Instructor classes are being taken by Tom Nelson, Brian Evenson, and <br />Natasha Carlson. Dan Cerise recently resigned from the department due to a new job and <br />family obligations. <br />The pump repair bill for Engine 2 has been completed at a cost of $17,600.00 which <br />included 13,600.00 for the pump and transmission, 3100.00 for leaking valves and fitting, <br />and 900.00 for a rear intake gasket. <br />
