COMMENTS FROM THE HIGHWAY 371 SUBCOMMITTEE ON THE
PROPOSED HIGHWAY 371 ALTERNATE ROUTE ALIGNMENT
May 20, 2008
MnDOT has asked the City to submit comments on the proposed alternate route
alignment. The sub-committee has met several times to review these concerns with
MnDOT. The County Engineer has also been involved in this process.
CONCERNS RAISED BY THE SUBCOMMITTEE
1 . County Road 29 and 107 — The City would like to see provisions for a future
stoplight installed at this location.
2. Hwy 371 Between Pow Wow Point Road and Olson Road, — As part of the turn
back process, the City would prefer this road be milled and resurfaced or
reconstructed as a 24-foot bituminous roadway with 2 foot gravel shoulders.
3 . CR 168 Intersection with Present 371 — The City understands the County and
MnDOT have agreed on the configuration of the intersections in this area. The
City has no problem with the configuration of these intersections.
The City would like to see provisions for a future stoplight installed at the
intersection of existing Hwy 371 and the future Hwy 371 .
The City requests that MnDOT purchase the triangle formed by the future Hwy
371 , CR 107, and the Paul Bunyan Trail and revegetate and reforest the area. If
possible, the City would like to see a parking lot at this triangle to be used for
access to the Paul Bunyan Trail.
4. Highway 371 Through the Present Spray Irrigation Field to the North End of the,
Sewer Pond - This area is considered the gateway to the City. The City would
like MnDOT to reforest or tree the area outside the future Hwy 371 clear zone on
both the east and west sides of the highway.
5 . CSAH 11 Interchange — The City is comfortable with the design of an at-grade
intersection but, if given a choice, the City would prefer a diamond-type
interchange with signals at the off-ramp intersections with CSAH 11 .
6. West Side of CSAH 11 at Proposed New Intersection — The City will have more
comments on this section when the downtown plan is complete. However, the
