Maintenance Department Monthly Report
May 2008
The yearly spring jobs are underway with the start up of all city
irrigation systems, which is a sign that summer temps are also not far away.
The warm weather has also brought out vandals again. Spray painted items
and a three by twenty foot retaining wall at Sibley Lake Park have been the
victims so far.
The Governors Opener hosted in town created a lot of traffic and extra
hours of work for most departments. With more large events being held in
the city, the need for traffic control devices has also increased. This year we
combined our budgets with the Police Department and purchased several
barricades. This eliminates the need to borrow from other municipalities. It
was getting harder all the time to borrow from other cities since they also are
busier than in the past.
Another yearly project recently given to all departments was the 2009
budget. This is a large project that needs to be completed by July. This will
involves some guess work on where vehicle fuel and building heating costs
will be twelve to eighteen months out.
Meetings in June
May 5 MMUA Group Safety training at East Gull Lake
May 6 City Council meeting
May 7 City Safety Committee and City Staff meetings
May 14 371 Sub-Committee with Crow Wing County Engineer
May 15 Park Board meeting
May 16 Cole Building insurance and uses meeting
May 20 Economic Development Committee meeting
May 21 Historical Society Board and City lease on Cole Building
May 21 371 Sub-Committee meeting
