PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD
MINUTES OF THE APRIL 30, 2008 MEETING
The first quarter meeting of the PLAFD was called to order by Chairman Peterson.
Members in attendance were Benson, Oraskovich, Czech, Murphy, Weaver, Malecha,
Nelson, Peterson, Messerschmidt, and City Clerk Peine.
The minutes of the last meeting were approved without being read by a motion by
Oraskovich, second by Benson, motion passed.
The first quarter fire call report totaled 10 calls. By types, there were 2 good intent fire
alarms, 2 mutual aid structure calls, and 1 each of a motor vehicle accident/rescue, a
natural gas leak, a medical lift assist, a structure fire involving a chimney, a good intent
gas leak, and a good intent motor vehicle accident. By location, there were 3 to Pequot
lakes, 2 to City of Breezy Point, 2 to the City of Jenkins, and 1 each to Loon Lake
Township, Ideal Township, and Mission Township. Last year there were 19 calls in the
first quarter.
Fire bills sent were three that totaled $750.00. Collections of fire bills for 2007 were very
good.
The training report for the first quarter totaled 31 hours. By types, there were 9 hours of
RIT team training, 6 hours of hybrid car safety and extrication, 3 hours of pump truck
operation, 3 hours of hazardous materials refresher, 3 hours of wall building construction,
2 hours of personnel accountability, 2 hours of a safety and walk thru inspection of the
new Breezy Point Marina, 2 hours of search and rescue, and 1 hour of thermal imaging
camera operation. Mr. "0", our City council liason, recently attended one of our live
house burns and was impressed by the entire operation in which each fire fighter had a
job to do to complete the task.
The first quarter financial report was discussed. Mayor Weaver asked about the operating
supplies account which was already at 56% of our total for the year. There were supplies
ordered in 2007 which arrived in 2008 which were for the 2007 budget and some things
that were purchased with donation or grant funds which make this category look over
budget. Messerschmidt motioned to approve the report, second by Weaver, motion
passed.
The new contract billing fee will take effect on May 15th when the new contracts begin.
The first hour billing charge will increase from $350.00 per hour to $500.00 per hour,
Each additional hour will be at the $350.00 per hour rate.
We submitted our FEMA grant application for 2008. Our application was mainly for
personnel safety and included new fire gear and air masks. New regulations for air masks
have increased the price from about $3500.00 each to $5100.00 each. We have two
different brands of these self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) now, and we prefer a
