City Council Minutes <br /> August 14, 2007 <br /> Page 3 of 9 <br /> The proposed 2008 Fire Department Budget is $140,500. This is an <br /> increase of $8,500 from the 2007 budget. <br /> • Planning & Zoning <br /> The proposed 2008 Planning and Zoning Budget is $135,550. This is an <br /> increase of $10,520 from the 2007 budget. The major increase in this <br /> budget relates to contract services. Community Growth's proposal for <br /> services is increased by $5,000. The Council discussed the need to <br /> begin budgeting for lake plans. Council Member Ryan indicated that <br /> the City needs to recognize that at sometime soon the City should <br /> consider hiring a full time planner. Council Member Nagel indicated <br /> that this should be considered and reviewed yearly. The Council <br /> concurred and requested the Clerk to look into a job description and <br /> cost to hire a planner and to review this information with the Council <br /> in the spring of 2008. <br /> • E911 Address Fee <br /> The proposed 2008 E-911 Address budget is $1,200. This is a 0% <br /> increase from the 2007 budget. <br /> • Police <br /> The proposed 2008 Police Budget is $530,050. This is an increase of <br /> $74,210 from the 2007 budget. The major increase in this fund relates <br /> to wages. Chief Braam informed the Council that he will be requesting <br /> to move one of the part time officers to full time in 2008. <br /> • Civil Defense <br /> The proposed 2008 Civil Defense budget is $4,150. This is a 0% <br /> increase from the 2007 budget. Chief Braam noted that there could be <br /> a possibility of installing two new sirens in 2008 in a joint effort with <br /> surrounding cities and townships. <br /> • Community Policing <br /> The proposed 2008 Community Policing budget is $51,570. This is an <br /> increase of $4,350 from the 2007 budget. This budget is funded by <br /> administrative fines and will not affect the tax levy. Chief Braam <br />
