City Council Minutes <br /> January 3, 2023 <br /> Page3 of7 <br /> Mayor Gardner presented the staff report. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER CLEMENT MOVED TO HIRE MIKE DAVIS AS CHIEF OF <br /> POLICE AT WAGE SCALE STEP 1 GRADE 23. COUNCIL MEMBER <br /> RONNING SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 4-0. COUNCIL <br /> MEMBER PEDERSON ABSTAINED. <br /> 8.3 Take Home Squad Policy <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the changes to the pity Vehicle Policy: <br /> Council Member Seils questioned the benefit of not allowing the officers to take <br /> home squad cars. Mayor Gardner stated Nils suggesting reducing the pool by 2 <br /> vehicles from 7 squads to 5. <br /> Council Member Ronning asked Sergeant Franz to present the benefits of take- <br /> home squads. Sergeant Franz explained some benefits of take-home squads: <br /> that take home squad was part of a benefits package, ability to respond to an <br /> emergency, cost associated is relatively small, supervisor can have the ability to <br /> take home squads. <br /> Chief Davis stated that the benefits of take-home squads outweigh the cost <br /> associated. Chief Davis said that medical calls are a factor that should be <br /> considered when amending the policy. <br /> Council Member Ronning does not think that the"what ifs"or"what could" <br /> happen incidents should change the policy or allow for take-home squads. <br /> Council Member Pederson suggested changing the 15-mile radius to 5-mile <br /> radius,. <br /> 17.3b City Vehicle Use Policy <br /> A) All City vehicles shall be used for City job related purposes only unless <br /> authorized by the City Administrator. <br /> 13) All City vehicles shall remain on city property when not used for City business <br /> unless,authorized by the City Administrator. <br /> C) No City vehicle shall be operated under the influence of any substance or alcohol. <br /> ... __ !_.. _ .. . . -- - -- -- - - - <br />
